“We are in the year after a crisis, before a crisis, in the middle of the permanent crisis”

When times are stormy, it is important to stick together, especially in business. Christoph Leitl gave this advice to the Rohrbach entrepreneurs on the occasion of the business reception in the district.

Economic Chamber Chairman Andreas Höllinger expressed the fact that entrepreneurs in particular are not having an easy time: “It is the year after a crisis, before a crisis and it feels like in the middle of a permanent crisis.” Doris Hummer, President of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce, was able to confirm this feeling: “The situation is worrying and the challenges are not over yet. We now need bold national measures so that companies can calculate properly again. A price regulation at European level would be the best, but that will be the case probably remain just a wish,” Hummer assessed the situation.

New ways are possible

Christoph Leitl also left no doubt that the crisis cannot be denied: “Now a relentless analysis is necessary and you have to say what’s going on, but then you come to the possibilities and opportunities. If you just keep talking about the crisis, you bring nothing more. We always have to show ways,” he encouraged. At the same time, he warned of global conflicts: “There are many ticking time bombs.” That’s why you have to rely on a better cooperation. He recalled the recently deceased Mikhail Gorbachev, who had called for a pan-European security policy many years ago. “And we didn’t hear it,” Leitl regretted.

The key to a good future in Europe is communication, understanding, tolerance and acceptance. As a neutral country, he sees Austria as a platform for dialogue with the aim of securing peace: “Austria could do it, Austria just had to want it!”
