For the first time in domestic volleyball, a Supercup for women and men is on the program at the start of the season. The scene of this new format is the Amstettner Johann-Pölz-Halle on Saturday.
“It will be a great event, because you can see the best teams in the country right away,” says Michael Henschke, sports director of the VCA Amstetten, who also organizes the Supercup.
From 8.20 p.m. in the Lower Austria derby, his newly formed team will meet double winner Union Waldviertel. This gives the Mostviertler the chance to take revenge right at the start of the season for the narrow defeat in the cup final.
“Waldviertel vs. Amstetten is the most atmospheric derby in local volleyball,” says Henschke. Last year, both clubs reached the round of 16 in the European CEV Challenge Cup.
The women’s Supercup duel is Linz versus Sokol Vienna. The game starts here at 5:50 p.m.
