Squirrel “Piebi” leads through the renewed forest nature trail

Squirrel “Piebi” leads through the renewed forest nature trail

It’s been three decades since the educational forest trail was set up in the village of Pieberschlag. The opening took place at the same time as that of the Mühlviertler Waldhaus. As a result, the nature trail proved to be extremely successful: it was hiked and visited by countless schools and hiking groups.

Admittedly, the ravages of time were becoming increasingly noticeable on the display boards: They were in a desolate condition. Luckily, the “tourism core” tackled the redesign project last year. A completely new and child-friendly concept was created with the financial support of the LEADER region Mühlviertler Kernland.

From now on, the mascot designed by elementary school students from Windhaag, a squirrel named “Piebi”, will guide visitors through the three-kilometre-long forest trail, most of which is barrier-free, and provide them with background information. For example, the last thing learned is queried in a riddle and immediately consolidated. Of course there is a surprise after the hike with the correct answer, which you can pick up at the inn on the forest trail.

The forest trail is freely accessible and can be explored at any time. You can strengthen yourself during the hike in the log cabin of the archery course or in the inn on the forest trail.
