Teacher representatives criticize the new curricula for elementary and middle school or AHS lower grades, which are currently being drawn up by the Ministry of Education and are to come into force from the 2023/24 school year. Some of them are “illegibly written” and cannot be implemented in practice, according to the statement by the compulsory school teachers’ union on the drafts, whose review period ended on Monday. It would take around 125,000 “miracle wuzzis” for that. Representatives of the AHS teachers made similar statements.
Specifically, according to compulsory school teachers, there is a lack of practical relevance: “For each subject, at least ten practitioners are said to have worked on the content. Apparently, this expertise was not sufficiently taken into account when creating the curriculum.” The new curriculum asks the educators “almost impossible”: For example, they should convey “interdisciplinary skills” such as motivation and trust in oneself. They should also “promote individual learning processes through different and varied learning settings” – an impossibility in view of class sizes with up to 29 students according to the union.
The AHS union argues similarly: “The structure into technical, interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary competences, the amount of text and the large number of interdisciplinary topics make the curriculum difficult to read,” says a statement. It is also impossible for schools to come into force in 2023 because, for example, textbooks cannot be adapted in the short time available.
According to parent representatives, the plans are overloaded. IG Authors criticizes the fact that the German curriculum only contains the word “book” once. Business educators at the universities are calling for improvements in the content of business education, as are the Chamber of Commerce and IV.
