Psychological counseling services are being expanded

In view of the great demand for counseling and therapy, the city of Linz has decided to further expand its range of services for children, young people and their families. In the first half of this year, the Institute for Family and Youth Counseling already had 2,345 contacts, an increase of 37 percent compared to the same period in 2019.

The new counseling center is to be located in the parent-child center in Ebelsberg, announced the deputy mayors Karin Hörzing and Tina Blöchl (both SP) yesterday. The new psychological contact point is intended to support families with questions of upbringing, with abnormalities in the children (behaviour, school, etc.), through diagnostics, advice and therapy. The aim is to be able to deal with “more complex issues” there so that families do not have to be referred to others.

Like the Institute for Family and Youth Counseling in Urfahr, the counseling service in Ebelsberg should also be an important cooperation partner for child and youth welfare, school social work and the city crèches and kindergartens, it said. The offer is supplemented by the violence-preventive offer focus of the family center Pichling, which specifically wants to address fathers, boys and men and is also located in the south of Linz.

At the beginning of next year – with the new advice center. then the area-wide supply in the entire city area will be given.
