Charges against ex-Wirecard boss Braun approved

The Munich I Regional Court has therefore allowed the Munich public prosecutor’s office to charge the Austrian and two other former Wirecard managers unchanged. The main accusation against the businessmen is commercial gang fraud.

Braun has been in custody for over two years. According to the indictment, he and his accomplices have falsified Wirecard’s balance sheets since 2015 and damaged lending banks by a total of EUR 3.1 billion – of which EUR 1.7 billion was in loans and a further EUR 1.4 billion in bonds. In June 2020, the Wirecard Group collapsed. The Austrian ex-CEO has protested his innocence in the past and rejected the allegations. The “Handelsblatt” was the first to report on the admission of the indictment.
