in Switzerland they share the shower to save energy

In principle, Sommaruga proposed “bathing together” as a solution to the energy crisis. Not only that measure, but also added another issue, that of reducing the temperature of homes by turning off lights that are not necessary, as well as unplugging computers that are not being used.

In any case, the idea of the shared shower was the most controversial and discussed, striking by far, among the announcements of the energy saving plan, which many in Switzerland have described as “surreal”.

“Coduching”: the trend of bathing as a couple to save energy

In social networks, thousands of comments have ironized on the subject. Among them Geraldine Savary, the editor of Femina (a Swiss women’s magazine), who, outraged by the proposal, said that other measures could be applied such as “making love in the morning after turning off the heating to get warm”.

Faced with criticism of showering as a couple, the Swiss official clarified that “it would not be comfortable for two people to shower at a certain age” and specified that the measure would apply to the youngest.

Many have referred to the Swiss Environment Minister’s decision as the “coding”, an invented term to refer to the conspicuous power-saving warning. According to The Timesthe policy promoted reducing water and energy consumption by showering as a couple.

Nevertheless, the use of the word coduching has reminded many of other terms that have been used with little meaning: “friganismo”, or grabbing food from the garbage; “wardrobing” or buying clothes and returning them after one use; nesting is not leaving the house for the entire weekend; and the well-known “coworking” and “coliving”, when we refer to sharing an office or flat to save.

This has generated many comments, both those who criticized this term that romanticizes and softens precariousness and those who, on the other hand, have preferred to laugh at the concept of “showering together”.
