Chairman, trainer, groundsman, good soul. Anyone who wants to list Christoph Ortner’s functions at the volleyball club in Gallspach (Grieskirchen district) needs a lot of staying power.
Where he is affectionately called “Tschisi”, he is simply “Mister Beach Volleyball”.
On April 15, 2011, he and his colleagues launched “Beach Volleys Gallspach” and since then it has been an integral part of local and club life. As a trainer for all teams from small to large, but also as an organizer of tournaments and probably most important: as a role model. How much Ortner’s commitment is appreciated can be seen in this year’s honorary office election, which is being organized for the fourth time by Sportland Oberösterreich in cooperation with OÖNachrichten, Tips, Life Radio and TV1.
Ortner has already collected numerous votes, but his supporters cannot rest until Sunday: Because with Philumena Bauer from the Linz rowing club Ister and Michael Brückler from the Sportunion Schweinbach, two volunteers are on his heels.
