“The relevant authorities in Saudi Arabia received and transferred (these people) from Russia to the Kingdom and are facilitating the mechanisms for their safe return to their respective countries,” he explained in the statement.
Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Liz Truss reported that among the 10 prisoners of war held by Russian forces in eastern Ukraine there were five British citizens who were “released.”
Truss announced it on his Twitter account, in which he also welcomed the prisoner exchange and the release of these British citizens, ending “months of uncertainty” for both them and their families.
“I thank Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky for his efforts to secure the release of detainees, and Saudi Arabia for its help. Russia must end the ruthless exploitation of prisoners of war and civilian detainees for political purposes,” Truss added, according to Europa Press news agency.
British State Minister Robert Jenrick confirmed on Twitter that among those “released” is Aiden Aslin, who had been sentenced to death in Donetsk for allegedly participating as a mercenary for the Ukrainian Army.
“Aiden’s return ends months of agonizing uncertainty,” he said.
