Between the turmoil of war and everyday rural life

Petra Mayr from Peuerbach presents her debut “All for one”. The novel by the 32-year-old author takes place during the Second World War and tells of how children experienced the war in the countryside from the perspective of children. The focus is on the ten-year-old farmer’s son Franz, who has to lend a hand after school because his father is at the front. When Franz makes a discovery in the hay barn, he risks his life out of friendship.

Mayr worked on her first book project for around a year. She grew up on a farm in Peuerbach. “My grandparents, who have unfortunately passed away, told me a lot about that time, how the people in the country experienced the war. I was always very interested in their stories,” says Mayr. “I keep coming across old relics of this time on our farm.” In addition to the historical background and the atrocities of the National Socialists, she also wanted to use the book to illustrate the busy farm life of the past, says the trained teacher for French and Italian, but who works in international sales.

The 200-page book is now available in well-stocked bookstores or directly from the author by email to mayrpe@gmx.net. The work is also available as an e-book.
