The Slovak woman and the man are now suspected of murder or incitement to murder, the public prosecutor’s office confirmed in a report in the “Kleine Zeitung” on Friday. When the body of an Italian was found near Sinabelkirchen in East Styria 21 years ago, the case was initially a mystery. The man had no connection to Styria, and he also had both stab and gunshot wounds. The investigations into organized crime came to nothing, but leads eventually led to Slovakia. In 2015, there were suddenly two testimonies, and the prosecutor’s office reopened the case.
As it turned out, the later victim met the now arrested Slovak (57) in 1999 and fell in love with her. The man kept giving her money, taking out life insurance for her daughter and also financing her an apartment. When it got too much for him, he threatened his girlfriend with a fraud report.
Acquaintances of the woman then lured the Italian to Vienna and drove with him to Styria. There, a now convicted man and the woman’s ex-brother-in-law (54) are said to have killed him. The mastermind behind this plan was sentenced to 17 years in prison in December 2019, and one of the direct perpetrators was sentenced to 18 years. Now the woman and the alleged second perpetrator have to answer in court. They were already included in the indictment in 2019, but the case was dropped because the two had not been caught for the time being.
