Gustavo Petro accuses his predecessor of building the FARC dissidents

The president is now immersed in strengthening his electoral promise to reach a “complete peace” agreement with all the violent agents of Colombia. In fact, on Thursday he already announced the imminent start of negotiations with the National Liberation Army (ELN).

On the other hand, Gustavo Petro denounced that “the owners of the drug trafficking do not have camouflage”, but rather “have political and economic power“, with which he urged that the judicial investigations focus on “where cocaine becomes money.” “That is where we will be more effective and that is where I want to take the issue,” he acknowledged.

Drug trafficking was precisely one of the main topics on which the Colombian president’s speech before the United Nations General Assemblywhere he took the opportunity to harshly criticize consumer societies and the hypocrisy of the fight against drugs.

A ceasefire in Colombia is still far away

The Minister of Defense from Colombia, Ivan Velasquezpointed out that it is still early to talk about a multilateral ceasefire with the armed groups, since there are still no negotiations with any of them, shortly after the president, Gustavo Petro, announced his intention to propose “in a matter of days ” the end of hostilities to the ELN.

Velásquez explained that at the moment the approaches with these groups to carry out a dialogue are in a first trial stageso it would be “absurd” to speak of a ceasefire when “there is not even a negotiation”.

“It would be absurd to think that a multilateral ceasefire is being considered for now. It is an intention. What determines that this intention materializes? Well, the progress that there is with each of the organizations,” Velásquez explained, as reported by the RCN radio station.
