Blackout exercise for emergencies

Blackout exercise for emergencies

On Thursday, the authorities and emergency organizations carried out a blackout exercise in Wels to train for an emergency in the event of a power grid failure. It was assumed that the national power supply failed due to a technical defect. On the part of the city, Magistrate Director Peter Franzmayr headed the crisis management team, while Mayor Andreas Rabl and Security Officer Deputy Mayor Gerhard Kroiß took over the official operations management.

Infopoints were set up in the districts, a first point of contact for the population in an emergency. There are also service points where the emergency services are available to the population for various matters (medical care, advice, etc.). The list of all information and service points will be listed in the next official gazette in October.

Employees from eww ag, the volunteer fire brigade, the Red Cross and the city went through the processes for dealing with a blackout in order to be prepared for an emergency and to jointly consider where there is still a need for optimization. “Exercises are an important building block in security of supply. Because it would be irresponsible to just leave contingency plans in the drawer,” says eww CEO Wolfgang Nöstlinger. A blackout is quite realistic for many experts, says Mayor Andreas Rabl. “That’s why we have to prepare as best we can together for this crisis.”
