Alpine emergency: rescue workers had to move out twice

A couple of holidaymakers from England called for help around 5.30 p.m. The 52-year-old woman and her 50-year-old partner left Obertraun for a mountain tour on the Krippenstein in the morning. The couple were traveling with normal hiking equipment and had planned to climb the mountain via trail no. 662. From 1500 meters above sea level, the two had to hike over snow fields again and again, lost their orientation and took longer than planned. As the couple grew more and more exhausted in the evening and the destination was not yet in sight, they called the cable car company. Three of the employees there went on the search with a Skidoo and on foot and also alerted the Obertraun mountain rescue service and the police helicopter.

An employee of the cable car company finally found the couple. However, the woman and the man were so exhausted that further ascent or descent was no longer possible. They therefore had to be flown with the police helicopter from the impassable terrain to the mountain station of the Krippenseilbahn. From there, the couple took the cable car down into the valley.

Three men had to be rescued in Hallstatt

Around 7:30 p.m., the emergency services received another emergency call. Three men who were friends (35, 37 and 38 years old) set out for the Vorderer Hirlatz in Hallstatt. The well-equipped vacationers had planned their tour with an app and reckoned with a walking time of around six hours. However, the path turned out to be an unmarked hunting trail, which is why the men had problems with their orientation. They decided to move on. However, as the altitude increased, the tour became more and more difficult because it had snowed the day before. Around 6 p.m. the men finally reached the summit and began the descent on the opposite side of the mountain towards Wiesalm.

When the sun went down around 7.30 p.m. and the batteries on their cell phones failed due to constant use of the app, the completely exhausted and soaked group alerted the rescue services. Two alpine police officers and four mountain rescuers from Hallstatt climbed up to the Germans in the dark and brought the men unharmed down into the valley.
