The number of actively infected people also showed a trend towards more people in Austria becoming infected with SARS-CoV-2. There are currently 69,429 active cases in Austria, 3,851 more than the day before.
The seven-day incidence is currently 550 cases per 100,000 population. Here, too, an increase from the previous day can be seen. On Saturday, this value was still 526.5 cases. The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Upper Austria with 718.1, followed by Tyrol, Carinthia and Salzburg (609, 572.3 and 571.7 respectively). Then come Lower Austria (531.4), Styria (520.2), Burgenland (462.8), Vorarlberg (454.6) and Vienna (452.2). For months, the federal capital was in first place in terms of incidence.
Fortunately, the situation in the hospitals stagnated again. As of Sunday morning, 1,034 people, the same number as the day before, were in hospital with a SARS-CoV-1 infection. 61 people are being cared for in intensive care units. This number has also not changed since yesterday, but has increased by nine patients within a week. Luckily, no fatalities have been reported since Saturday. According to the authorities, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 20,712 lives in Austria since it broke out.
Upper Austria brings up the rear in terms of protection rate
Only 5,330 vaccinations were carried out on Saturday, of which 4,587 were booster vaccinations (4th, 5th and every further vaccination dose). On Friday there were twice as many. 5,295,753 people and thus 58.7 percent of Austrians are validly vaccinated according to the recommendation of the National Vaccination Committee (NIG). A total of 655,541 people have received a booster vaccination so far. The protection rate is highest in Burgenland at 66.1 percent. In Lower Austria, 61.9 percent of the population have basic immunization, in Styria 60.4 percent. After Tyrol (57.3), Vienna (56.8), Carinthia (55.7), Vorarlberg (55.7) and Salzburg (55), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 54.3 percent.
Since the beginning of the pandemic there have already been 5,073,706 confirmed cases in Austria. 4,983,565 people have recovered since the outbreak of the epidemic.
