Wolfgang Gruber looked after St. Florian in the Upper Austria League for four years before he was released last season and then brought back too late to be able to prevent relegation. But now Gruber is back in the coaching business and has been training in Schwertberg in the Landesliga Ost since last week. As luck would have it, the 49-year-old met his former teammates from St. Florian on his debut – and won this duel 2-0. “It wasn’t a normal matchday for me. I had a queasy feeling beforehand because St. Florian of all places would be our first opponent. On the one hand, we’re very happy about the success. On the other hand, it hurts a little when it’s against the Ex-club succeeds,” says Gruber.
Heated Scenes in the West
In the west, title aspirant Bad Schallerbach suffered the second defeat in a row. As if that wasn’t enough, three players from the top team were excluded within four minutes of the 1:2 in Pettenbach. “I’ve never experienced anything like it,” said Bad Schallerbach’s sports director Harald Ruckendorfer about referee Asim Basic. Even after the final whistle it remained heated, with the exit to the cabins there were tumults. The result was complaints against Bad-Schallerbach coach Erich Renner and his goalkeeper coach Rene Troll. Ruckendorfer: “We will reject this referee in the future.”
