When lighting a campfire on Sunday afternoon in Gleisdorf (district of Weiz), an eleven-year-old girl was injured by a jet of flame. She stayed by the fireplace with other children while a 12-year-old poured gasoline on the already smoldering, wet wood. The girl suffered burns on her face and along the right side of her body and was hospitalized at LKH Graz, the Styrian State Police Directorate said.
The four boys and girls lit a campfire on a property around 3:40 p.m. The twelve-year-old wanted to help out and poured about a quarter of a liter of petrol from an old moped tank onto the wood. A jet of flame erupted, hitting the eleven-year-old. She sustained first and second degree burns. After the investigations are completed, a report is made to the public prosecutor’s office.
