As the news agency “Associated Press” reports, the league abolishes the Pro Bowl. The best players from both halves of the league competed against each other at the annual All-Star game – it has been an established tradition in the American football league since 1951 and was played a week before the Super Bowl.
In recent years, however, the level of the Pro Bowl has been more like that of a training game, since the league’s superstars didn’t want to hurt themselves in the selection game. Because of this, many fans had hoped for a change in the Pro Bowl. NFL staffer Peter O’Reilly told the Associated Press: “The Pro Bowl is something that we’ve been eyeing for a while and want to develop further. After last year’s game, we made the decision based on a lot of internal discussions, feedback from managers and coaches and feedback from the players.”
Beginning this season, the Pro Bowl will be replaced by a weeklong event that pits NFL stars against each other in a variety of challenges. There will also be a flag football game during the week.
