A billionaire burned a Frida Kahlo work to create an NFT

The Mexican investor released a video on July 30 where the alleged drawing is burned inside a glass in the middle of a meeting organized in Miami. According to the businessman, the purpose of the destruction was turn the painting into 10,000 digital pieces that would be sold in NFT format.

Morabak bought the piece in 2015 at the Mary Anne Martin gallery, located in New York. For the self-perceived philanthropist, the action would serve to revolutionize digital art and create donations that they would multiply “in eternity”.

Through an official statement, the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature of Mexico (INBA) It also investigates what happened and denied that different INBA venues have received any donation from the collector.

Frida Kahlo created the work just 10 years before his death, in 1944. She was found in one of the pages of his private diary, which he used during a long time of illness.

According to the official record of the work, Frida Kahlo tore the drawing and gave it to his friend Juan Röhla Venezuelan art historian who lived in Mexico during the 1940s. Among the articles he wrote is The Tortured Art of Frida Kahlo, which was published in 1961.

Röhl kept it for some time and later it passed into the hands of other people. In such a way that she was exhibited in countries like Canada, Germany, United States, Denmark and Italy.
