Lula prepares for a conflictive transition

“The people of PSDB (Brazilian Social Democracy Party) played politics, when he won he celebrated, and when he lost, he allowed the winner to celebrate. That is not the behavior of Bolsonaro, he can try to create any riot during the transition“, he said, during a press conference in Rio de Janeirocomparing the current political climate with that of 2002, when he first won the Presidency.

“From the political point of view (the return to power) is more difficult than in 2002, when there was a party like the PSDB, which made an extraordinary, peaceful transition. Nothing was denied to the victorious government. I don’t think we will have the same ease with Bolsonaro,” insisted the leader of the Workers’ Party (PT).

The ultra-conservative president has repeatedly repeated that the electronic ballot boxes in Brazil are not reliable and has raised the possibility of fraud without providing evidence. Some analysts fear that it will not recognize an eventual defeat and a violent reaction will be triggered as by the followers of donald trump and his storming the capitol.

“The results of the polls will be respected as long as the elections are clean and transparent,” Jair Bolsonaro said during the campaign.

Criticism of the relationship with Argentina

Former President Lula da Silva criticized Jair Bolsonaro for continually seeking a “stupid” confrontation with his Argentine counterpart, Alberto Fernandez.

You cannot have a president in Brazil who continues to provoke Argentina every day. Argentina is our main trading partner. It is stupidity of those who govern. It is going to cost us a lot to recover many things that have been dismantled here,” he lamented.

Lula pointed out that much of South America wants his victory in the elections in Brazil in order to be able to “again coordinate a multilateral institution” as, he says, was the case of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur).

According to a survey of Datafolha disclosed on Thursday, Lula, 76, has 48% of the voting intentions compared to 34% of the president. Considering only the valid votes (without blanks or null), The former president gathers 50% of the support, the minimum percentage to obtain a victory in the first round.

On the penultimate day of the campaign, Lula da Silva will also participate in a walk in saviorstate of Bahia (northeast), and will later have an activity in Fortressstate of Ceará (northeast).

Bolsonaro led a motorcycle parade in Poços de Caldas, state of Minas Gerais (southeast).
