“The (Russian) occupiers attacked these civilians who were trying to escape the bombing,” the Ukrainian leader denounced, adding: “It is cruelty that has no justification.”
The remains of the people were left where they died, in and around the six vehicles on a highway in the town of Kyrylivka, about 70 kilometers east of Kharkov, the AFP news agency reported.
A small van or minibus was completely charred, with the charred remains of four people inside. At least one of these corpses was small enough to have been a child.
This event takes place 24 hours after Ukraine and Russia exchanged accusations about an attack on a “humanitarian convoy” in the Zaporizhia region that left at least 30 dead and 118 wounded, according to the latest balance.
That attack occurred near the city of Zaporizhia, not far from the crossing point between the Ukrainian-controlled part of the region and that occupied by the Russian army.
“Only complete terrorists can do that and they should have no place in the civilized world,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday.
A Kremlin official, for his part, accused the Ukrainian forces of having attacked the vehicles to prevent civilians from going to the occupied area.
Ukrainian forces “attacked our people, who were queuing up,” a regional occupation official, Vladimir Rogov, accused on Telegram.
