With these words the Pontiff spoke today from the window of the Apostolic Palace in Saint Peter’s Square, dedicating his Sunday Angelus reflection to the destruction and horrors of the war in Ukraine which, in addition to violence and death, is threatening identity and existence of the European Union itself because of the energy crisis and Brussels’ inability to find a common solution.
The course of the war in Ukraine has become so serious, devastating and threatening that it is of great concern to Bergoglio: “Please let the younger generations breathe the sacred air of peace, not the polluted air of war , it’s crazy!”.
“This terrible and inconceivable wound of humanity, instead of healing, continues to bleed more and more, with the risk of lengthening. It is absurd that humanity once again faces the atomic threat”the Pope told the thousands of pilgrims from around the world who watched his prayers under the sun at the Vatican.

“It is distressing that the world is learning the geography of Ukraine through names like Bucha, Irpin, Mariupol, Izium, Zaporizhzhia and other places, which have become places of unspeakable suffering and fear,” manifested.
In the midst of a dramatic climate in Europe, Bergoglio stated that “I am afflicted by the rivers of blood and tears shed in recent months”, just as -continued the Pontiff- “I am saddened by the thousands of victims, especially among children, and the many destructions.
“Certain actions can never be justified, never!”Bergoglio concluded his intervention this autumn midday.
