The corona dilemma of science

The corona dilemma of science

The doctor and health scientist Martin Sprenger has been invited as a guest speaker. He heads the public health course at MedUni Graz and teaches at numerous technical colleges and universities. For four weeks in spring 2020, he was a member of the Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus task force. He is convinced: “A pandemic is always a societal and social event. A purely medical and virological consideration is not enough. Every scientific method has limitations, every scientific perspective has blind spots. While in some countries the events are viewed from a public health perspective, all measures were assessed for their desired and undesired effects, other countries have politicized the course of the disease, polarized the public debate and divided society.

Took a lot of trust

A policy that is perceived as opaque and arbitrary has cost a lot of trust and also significantly weakened the effectiveness of the measures. Science is not entirely to blame.” The “Convivium” will take place on Thursday, October 6th at 7:30 p.m. in the parish hall of Haslach.
