Fistball has a long tradition in Grieskirchen, and the people of Trattnachtal have been enjoying national and international success for many years. The men’s team is currently in Brazil, where the young team around attacker Lukas Eidenhammer took fifth place in the Fistball World Tour Major Event in Porto Alegre. The Grieskirchners thus qualified for the 2023 World Tour finals and are fighting for the world’s most important title at club level (Club World Cup), in which the 16 best teams in the world take part. The Hausruckviertler finish the season in fourth place in the world rankings.
“We are very happy about the top 5 result in the last major event of the year, even though three important pillars were missing in Brazil with Simon Lugmair, Christian Holzinger and Joao Fidelis,” says defense chief Philipp Einsiedler. The young players Jonas Aigner, David Baumgärtel and Diogo Magrone Rieck did an excellent job. “It’s unbelievable that we qualified for the 2023 World Tour finals,” says Einsiedler.
The trip to Brazil was also worthwhile for section head Christoph Oberlehner, who shared the excitement as a supervisor in Porto Alegre. “The success is another big milestone in history. It paid off completely, on the one hand through the qualification, but even more so for the development of the young team. I’m really proud of the team and the entire club,” says Oberlehner.
The athletes put a lot of effort into the two-week trip. Travel costs have increased massively in recent months due to the sharp rise in flight costs. The athletes pay most of it themselves. Prize money from tournaments and support from the association went into the pot to finance the trip, which costs a total of almost 20,000 euros. The two sponsors, McDonald’s Ried-Haag and Karin Gradinger from Swiss Life Select, are also helping to reduce travel costs for the players.
