The retired elementary school director has supported the municipal Kammerhof Museum in many different ways for many years. It organizes events, curates special exhibitions (“Private Treasures in the Museum”), uses funds from the association’s treasury to make purchases and restoration work possible, and uses educational expertise to promote youth work, for example with the “Salz and Gmunden” didactic program.
August Mayer is also active as a journalist. He recently published the brochure “Keramikspuren in Gmunden” and is currently working in a team on the Gmundner online image archive “Topothek”. Again and again he has campaigned for the preservation and documentation of historical buildings. Thanks to the online documentation “Gmundner Schätze”, the signage of historical inner city houses or his critical voice during the demolition of the Kösslmühle.
