An experienced mountaineer from Steyr is likely to have fallen about 150 meters over extremely steep, rocky terrain on the south side while climbing the “Wildfrauensteig”, a partially secured ascent over the Bosruck east ridge. Any help came too late for the 65-year-old, who had traveled alone on his tour up the Grenzberg, which was high in 1992. His body was found on Friday morning.
The Steyrer’s partner filed a notice of departure with the police in Steyr late Tuesday afternoon after her partner had not reported for a long time. The immediately initiated search operation, in which the mountain rescue service, alpine police, flight police, volunteer fire brigade and several dog squadrons with almost 90 emergency services were deployed, was unsuccessful until late at night.
On Wednesday, the search for the missing person continued with the same effort – and brought sad certainty: the crew of the police helicopter “Libelle” finally discovered the body of the casualty at 7:55 a.m. The salvage was also carried out by the flight police. The relatives of the mountaineer who died in an accident are being cared for by the ÖRK’s crisis intervention team.
