Is it also getting colder in Upper Austria’s public transport?

It’s getting cooler in Vienna’s public transport system. As Wiener Linien announced today, the temperature is to be reduced by two degrees to save energy. So it should be 18 instead of 20 degrees in the future. Is that also an issue in Upper Austria? The OÖN asked around.

ÖBB has already adjusted

A similar step was taken at ÖBB. In the course of the energy crisis, the temperature in the fleet was adjusted. “In the summer, the trains are cooled by two degrees less and heated by two degrees less in the winter,” says a spokesman. Depending on the outside temperature and the technical framework, this fluctuates between 19 and 25 degrees. The same applies to buses. There are no general requirements from the Upper Austrian Transport Association, on whose behalf the ÖBB Postbuses are also on the road. “The bus driver determines that,” says a spokesman on request.

Stern & Hafferl is examining a reduction

At the Gmunden-based company Stern & Hafferl, a temperature reduction is currently being examined together with the manufacturers. It’s more about the technical feasibility. The temperature is currently 21 degrees, in the future it could be 18 or 19. An exception are the last old trains of the Lambach local railway, where there is only “on or off”.

Linz AG remains vague

No concrete statement regarding a temperature reduction could be elicited from Linz AG today. Many energy optimization measures have already been implemented in the past. For example, the temperature control for the 24-meter trolleybus works via modern and efficient software control. The Cityrunners are also on the move with reduced energy requirements.
