OMV refinery Schwechat will soon be back in full operation

That’s what CEO Alfred Stern said in the National Council’s Economic Committee, as the parliamentary correspondence announced on Wednesday evening. The refinery is currently running at a fifth of its capacity. In mid-September, the OMV boss announced that it should be ramped up again in the first half of October.

In order to ensure security of supply with fuel, the state had to step in several times and release fuel reserves. Austria currently has reserves for 65 days, but according to the Petroleum Stockpiling Act it should be 90 days. According to statements by the managing director of the oil storage company (ELG), Stefan Tomann, the refilling of the emergency reserve is already fixed, the parliamentary correspondence also announced. It should be 80 days at the end of the year, and 90 days again at the end of March 2023.
