The elections also gave some victory to progressive causes, with the first trans federal deputies from Brazil: Erika Hilton, Doubt SalabertY Robeyoncé Limawho will represent the states of São Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Pernambuco, respectively.
Brazil had the largest number of trans candidates in this year’s elections, with candidates from that group on lists of eleven parties, according to O Globo.
Jair Bolsonaro’s allies in Congress
The new Bolsonarist congressmen include two very controversial ex-ministers: the former head of the Environment Ricardo Salleswho left the government on suspicion of corruption, and Eduardo Pazuellocriticized for his management at the head of the Health portfolio at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic and who was the most voted deputy in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The list of Bolsonaristas to the Senate includes from the former soccer player Romario (re-elected) until Mark Pontea former astronaut and former head of Science who unseated an ally of Lula, Marcio Francefavorite in the polls.
Three other former ministers, the ultraconservative Damares Alves (Woman); Theresa Christina (Agriculture) and Roger Marino (Development) and the current vice president, were also elected to the Senate, which in 2023 must confirm two judges of the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
The former judge and former minister also enter the upper house Sergio Moro who broke with Bolsonaro and the former prosecutor Dalton Dellagnolstars of the megacause car wash. The two put Lula da Silva in jail for 19 months, but the sentence was overturned due to procedural irregularities.
Election of governors in Brazil
Brazilians also elected the governors of the 27 states (including the Federal District of Brasilia).
In Rio de Janeiro was chosen Claudio Castro (PL) but the biggest surprise occurred in Saint Paulthe most populous and richest state in Brazil, with the partial victory in the first round of the Bolsonarist Tarcisio Freitasformer head of Infrastructure, which appeared second in the polls.
Freitas (PL) beat Fernando Haddadformer mayor of the São Paulo megalopolis and Lula’s dolphin defeated by Bolsonaro in the 2018 presidential elections, and the two will meet on October 30 in a ballot.
This is the first election in 28 years in which the traditional Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB)of the former president Henrique Fernando Cardoso and Lula’s running mate, Gerald Alckmindoes not dispute power in that region.
