In 1964, together with her four sisters, she took over the fashion company that her parents had founded in 1925. Each of them was responsible for a business area: Paola took care of the fur collection, Anna leather goods and accessories, Alda was responsible for sales, Franca for advertising and Carla Fendi coordinated the management.
Pioneer of fashion and elegance
Fendi women were considered pioneers of fashion and elegance in the 1960s. The company grew rapidly, especially when they began collaborating with star German designer Karl Lagerfeld (1933–2019).
In the early 1990s, Fendi fell into a crisis. Fur was no longer politically correct, and the company was burdened with countless forgeries. All of this prompted the sisters to sell a 51 percent stake in French group Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy and Prada.
