Many things in life go faster than planned – including the birth of Jonas, who didn’t want to waste any time in mid-September. The young man not only kept his parents on their toes, but also the paramedics Lukas and Thomas from the Waldhausen branch. The baby was born at home at 9.46am. Everything went well, the paramedics were able to provide professional support during the home birth, so that the emergency doctor from Ybbs/Persenbeug only had to provide routine care for mother and child. Only a few minutes old, Mama Michaela was on the first ride in an ambulance – the journey went well to the state clinic in Melk for further examination.
“Such an experience is very different in reality than you always imagine. Even if it is a stressful situation in the short term, giving birth is a great event for a paramedic,” the two paramedics Lukas describe their experience. “Even if childbirth is not on the agenda of our paramedics, it is an important part of our training and our ongoing training. This means that our emergency services know what to do at all times,” says district manager Christian Geirhofer, praising the professionalism of his rescue workers.
Representing the entire Red Cross team involved, paramedic Lukas Leitner, local manager Lukas Palmanshofer, his deputy Romana Katzengruber and duty manager Stephan Leimhofer visited the family at home in St. Oswald to congratulate them again on the birth. In addition to a gift for the family, the Red Cross team also received a big thank you for the great care during the birth. “Because everything happened so suddenly, we were particularly happy that help was there quickly,” say parents Michaela and Martin.
