It is therefore important that the tire pressure is checked regularly, even in vehicles with a tire pressure monitoring system. If you drive with tire pressure that is too low for a long time, then the fuel consumption increases.

“With 1.0 bar too little air pressure in all four tires, an additional consumption of 0.2 liters per 100 kilometers must be expected in a compact car,” says Dieter Lepschy, technician at the ÖAMTC mobility club. With the current fuel prices, this is an additional burden that should not be underestimated.

Too little air in the tires also impairs the functioning of the assistance and safety systems: If the air pressure in the front tires is too low, the ABS no longer works optimally, if the air pressure in the rear wheels is too low, sidesteering is encouraged.
