Russia accused Ukraine of terrorism for the explosion on the Crimean bridge

Putin met with Alexander Bastrykin, head of Russia’s Investigative Committee, who presented the findings of an investigation into Saturday’s explosion and fire on the bridge.

The explosion

Three people died this Saturday after a truck bomb exploded on the bridge of crimea, a key infrastructure that connects Russia with the peninsula annexed by Moscow, and the Russian authorities opened an investigation pointing to Ukraine for a possible attack.

The images captured by the security cameras and released to the press showed a huge detonation and a burning railway line, while others already left a section of the bridge collapsed.

“Today at 0607 (0307 GMT) on the road part of the Crimean bridge (…) there was a car bomb detonation, which caused the fire of seven railway tankers that were going to Crimea,” said the National Committee Russian antiterrorist, quoted by local agencies.

Russian investigators announced that three people were killed in the blast, likely passengers in a vehicle that was near the truck when it exploded.

The bridge, inaugurated in 2018 and built at the initiative of the president Vladimir Putinis the symbol of the annexation of this Ukrainian peninsula by Russia in 2014.
