There was hardly a club that Hubert Auer did not participate in during his lifetime in his home town of Hellmonsödt. Whether as a long-standing member of the volunteer fire brigade, on the board of the Raiffeisenbank or as a member of the municipal council – the committed businessman worked eagerly everywhere.
Hubert Auer was born in Hellmonsödt on October 27, 1927 and learned in his youth what it means to work hard. At the age of 17 he was drafted into the “Volkssturm”, the last contingent at the end of the Second World War, and was taken prisoner by the Americans. “No one knows what would have happened if he had fallen into Russian hands,” says his daughter Andrea.
Back from captivity, Hubert Auer took over his father’s wheelwright business. At first he specialized in agricultural machines made of wood, later he also added skis and toboggans from the “Auer Spezial” brand. “My father always recognized the signs of the times in good time and took the right measures relatively quickly. At the beginning of the 1960s, he switched the entire business to metalworking,” says his daughter.
family support
As a businessman, Hubert Auer was not only able to rely on the commitment of his employees. The most important support during all this time was his wife Siegtraud, to whom he had been married for more than 60 years, and his three daughters Renate, Andrea and Michaela.
The company grew steadily, the sales area expanded to include the whole of Europe. The Auer company is known to many as a manufacturer of blowers, hay spreaders, fruit presses, forestry equipment and cranes for agriculture – a company empire that Hubert Auers was very proud of. “His life was shaped by curiosity, by the joy of creating something and not standing still,” says his daughter Andrea.
With a heavy heart he handed over the management to his son-in-law Kurt in 1991, but he stayed with the company as senior manager with his ideas and suggestions.
In addition to his business, the businessman also had another great passion: music. For 43 years he played the violin in the church choir, for 61 years he reinforced the local band, first with the trumpet and later with the bass and tenor flugelhorn. He also shone with his tenor voice in the double-man quartet.
On September 25, the agricultural machinery manufacturer died in his home town at the age of 95. On Friday, October 7th, his relatives, friends and colleagues said goodbye to Hubert Auer, whose sense of humour, family spirit and commitment will remain unforgotten.
