Pedro Sánchez summoned the opposition after the resignation of the head of the Court

Lesmes said that tomorrow he will formally present his resignation, reflecting the lack of agreements between the ruling party and the opposition for the appointment of judges.

After almost four years of delay in the renewal of the governing body of the judges, Lesmes will resign so as not to be an “accomplice” in the paralysis of the CGPJ, according to what he said in a statement quoted by the Europa Press news agency.

“Keeping me from now on in this responsibility can only serve to make me an accomplice in a situation that I abhor and that is unacceptable,” he said. the highest authority of the Spanish Judicial Power.

Once that announcement was known, Sánchez summoned the leader of the PP to a meeting tomorrow at 10:30 in Moncloa to ask him to “unlock the situation of the judiciary, comply with the Constitution and what the law mandates”said a source from the government palace to the Spanish channel RTVE.

For its part, Núñez Feijóo said on his Twitter social network account that he will attend “with the best disposition” and recalled that his pact offer has been in Moncloa “since July.”

“I will meet with Pedro Sánchez tomorrow in La Moncloa, my pact offer has been there since July to guarantee the independence of Justice as requested by the EU and, although I regret that the president of the TS had to resign, I will go with the best disposition”, he affirmed.

During the opening speech of the judicial year, in September, Lesmes had called on the president of the government and the head of the opposition to give a definitive solution to the “unsustainable situation” in which the Supreme Court and the CGPJ find themselves.

“The contacts developed in recent days, of which I have been informed”, did not give any positive resultexposed the jurist.

The magistrate pointed out in his statement that he has lost “all hope of rectification” and that, given the “obvious deterioration” of the Court and the General Council, his presence at the head of these institutions “is no longer useful” and would also be contrary to his own professional awareness.

The CGPJ is a “constitutional, collegiate, autonomous body, made up of judges and other jurists, which exercises government functions of the Judicial Power in order to guarantee the independence of judges,” according to the website of the official entity.
