Wrong-way driver accident with three dead: conditional detention for drivers

The Albanian was found guilty of grossly negligent manslaughter and negligent bodily harm. The driver and the prosecutor accepted the verdict. Because the representative of the injured parties made no statement according to the regional court, the judgment is not final.

According to the police, the 22-year-old drove the car wrongly onto the Vienna lane from the Völlerndorf service station near St. Pölten in the early hours of the morning on April 25, 2021, according to the police. In the municipality of Markersdorf-Haindorf (Sankt Pölten-Land district) there was a collision with an oncoming car with a Belgian license plate.

Two Albanian citizens died at the scene of the accident, two other Albanians and three Romanians from the second vehicle involved were taken to hospital, some with serious injuries. A 50-year-old Romanian died in a Viennese hospital the day after the accident.
