“The Nation’s prosecutor, Patricia Benavides, presented the constitutional complaint against the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, through a letter submitted this afternoon (Tuesday) to the table of parties of the Congress of the Republic”Said a Twitter from the Public Ministry.

“We have found serious evidence of the alleged existence of a criminal organization entrenched in the Government Palace with the purpose of capture, control and direct contracting processes to obtain illicit profits,” Benavides said in a video.

In addition, he warned that “the harassment against the special team of prosecutors and the National Police” puts “in serious danger the continuity of the investigations and the discovery of the truth that all the Peruvian people hope to know.”

“We are doing the right thing (…) From this moment on it is the responsibility of Congress to decide on the processing of the constitutional complaint. The fight against corruption in all spheres of the State must be unanimous”added the National Prosecutor.

The complaint filed this afternoon reaches the former Ministers of Transport, Juan Silva Villegas, and Housing, Geiner Alvarado López.

According to the document presented to Congress, the prosecutor stated: “I file a constitutional complaint against José Pedro Castillo Terrones in his capacity as President of the Republic as the alleged perpetrator of crimes against public tranquility in the form of criminal organization aggravated by his condition of leader”.

From now on, the complaint must be evaluated by the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations and if it succeeds, it will go to the Permanent Commission, and then go to the plenary session of Parliament.

Currently, the president faces six accusations, five of which were formulated by the Nation’s prosecutor’s office. Pedro Castillo, who has been in office for a year for which he was elected until 2026, lives under the fiscal siege for alleged corruption and the persistent siege of a Congress dominated by the right that demands his resignation.
