Tarockcup new: Haudum is again about owls, cockatoos and wild boars

Trischaken, Solo-Farberl or Zwickolo, Rufer, Sechser-Dreier or Solo-Eigen are the odd-sounding names of individual games of the “Königrufen” tarock game. For two years it was no longer possible to announce them, at least in cup fashion. But the wait is over: after a two-year break, the Raiffeisen Tarockcup Austria is starting its 26th tournament season on Friday, October 14th in Helfenberg at the Gasthaus Haudum. 19 tournaments and the final are planned. This year’s Tarock Cup is not only the first after Corona, but also the first without the Haas family in the front row of the organizational team.

Put on a new footing

“We are glad that Karl Haas and his family have been organizing the cup for so long,” says Peter Haudum, who is part of the new management quintet around chairman Erwin Scharitzer. “Of course we wanted the cup to continue, even though there hasn’t been a tournament for two years now,” says the Helfenberg host, whose heart has always been beating for Königrufen. Erwin Scharitzer is the new chairman and is looking forward to getting started again: “We just knew that we couldn’t let such a good project die. That’s why we combined 20 tournaments together into one cup,” he says happily themselves, as well as the organizers of the individual tournaments, who are also on board again. The new chairman learned Königrufen as a schoolboy: “I’ve been playing tarocks since I was eight years old. That was when my grandfather taught me the first subtleties of the game. I also learned a lot from my father. I’ve just loved playing tarocks ever since,” he says is convinced: “Tarock trains the brain and is of course also a social aspect.”

“We play according to uniform rules, but the joy of the game must not suffer.” Incidentally, this is a combination of tactics, experience and luck. But actually it’s not just about winning anyway: “I like to remember tarot evenings where I only lost, and they were the funniest games ever,” says Scharitzer.

Wild boar is moving in

The proven tournament mode is essentially retained. By popular request, however, there have been some adjustments: the announcements have been expanded to include the wild boar (quapil). The start of the tournament on Fridays is set at 6 p.m. If the number of participants differs, five-person tables will also be opened. The entry fee is 12 euros this year. The 2023 New Year’s tournament will also take place again on January 6th at Casino Linz.
