The accident happened around 9:20 p.m. on Rieder Strasse near the village of Englfing in the municipality of Ottnang am Hausruck. Two cars collided head-on for reasons unknown. The red Dacia, driven by a 69-year-old from the Gmunden district, came to a standstill on the road. The second car – an 80-year-old from the Vöcklabruck district was behind the wheel – was thrown onto a meadow.

Drivers who followed later provided first aid, but despite immediate attempts at resuscitation, any help came too late for the 69-year-old driver. The man suffered such serious injuries in the accident that he died at the scene.
In the 80-year-old’s seat were an 82-year-old and an 83-year-old, both from the Vöcklabruck district. All three occupants were injured in the head-on collision. The rescue brought her to the Salzkammergut Klinikum Vöcklabruck.
The Ottnang am Hausruck, Bruckmühl and Bergern fire brigades carried out the clean-up work. Rieder Strasse was closed in the area of the accident for about two and a half hours, and a detour was set up.
