“Variety is the absolute trend this fashion winter – that also applies to jackets and coats, of course,” says Maria Mayr, who is responsible for purchasing the women’s collection at Fussl-Modestrasse. Quilted models come in many variations, with all sorts of fashionable details and in the colors of the season. “Shortened, voluminous puffer jackets are particularly casual – they impress in light colors such as beige, green and blue. With wool coats, mélange looks, bouclé, decorative checks and large hoods score points,” says the fashion expert from Ort im Innkreis.
Brighten dull days with bright colors
By the way: This winter you can also wear fur – imitation fur, mind you. The jackets often appear as if they are too big. “But that’s not the case: Oversize cuts are modern,” says Elisabeth Mühlberger from the Linz fashion house Penz. A particular highlight of this season are coats that are made from both wool and down.

In the darker months of the year, however, the trendy pieces don’t just provide warmth. With their colors, they can brighten up the days – and make their wearers visible even on foggy days.
Whether cobalt blue, cherry red or a bright pink, with a long coat in the most beautiful tones of the color palette you are completely on trend in autumn. Everything is allowed with the colors, says Silvia Kolm from the fashion house of the same name. “From elegant winter white to classic brown to green and greige – a perfect color mix of gray and beige.”
Garment with history
One of the oldest archaeologically documented coats is – in addition to his fur coat – the five-thousand-year-old grass coat of the glacier corpse Ötzi. The fine and skilful craftsmanship of this and other of his garments led to a comprehensive reappraisal of Central European Neolithic culture.
The Romans called their early coat shapes sagum and trabea. The ancient Greeks also wore cloaks: chlamys and himation.
