Racist calls overshadowed second division derby

The derby series of the second division soccer team FC Blau-Weiss Linz continues: The Stahlstadtklub remained undefeated in their 13th duel against Vorwarts Steyr (4:1) on Saturday. Paul Mensah (11′) gave the hosts the lead, after the break Fally Mayulu (53′, 57′) put together a brace. Ronivaldo scored the 4-0 with a penalty (83rd). Steyr striker Tobias Pellegrini only managed the goal of honor in the finish. “We did extremely well in difficult conditions,” said BW coach Gerald Scheiblehner proudly.

In the end he had to be happy that referee Dieter Muckenhammer kicked off the game at all: Due to the tight schedule and the willingness of the clubs, the local duel was kicked off despite the difficult surface. “Blue and white were simply better than us in many respects. Above all, they accepted the space conditions better and were more present in the duel,” says Steyr coach Daniel Madlener.

Mensah and Mayulu offended

During the game, referee Muckenhammer was again the center of attention: racist shouts from the forward Steyr sector against the blue and white goal scorers Mayulu and Mensah overshadowed the second division derby.

A considerable number of the 100 visiting fans who traveled with us came from the Czech Republic – Steyr has been a fan friend of the supporters of the Czech first division club Dynamo Budweis for years. The shouts are said to have come from this part of the followers. Only after a brief interruption, during which Muckenhammer had an announcement made, could the situation be brought under control. “There were things you don’t want to hear,” Muckenhammer confirmed to OÖN.

Blue and white coach Scheiblehner was clearer: “These monkey people are not to be tolerated. It’s not worthy of football, these people should be removed.”

Steyr sports director Jürgen Tröscher, whose club has taken over the sale of the guest ticket contingent, also knows this: “Ticket sales are free. If someone buys more than one ticket, it is difficult to understand where these tickets go. We have to look at how we be able to deal with this problem. It is detrimental to football and to our club.” Just like the scenes after the final whistle when fences and a mobile toilet were destroyed.
