The plane went off the runway at the Santa Marta airport, in northern Colombia.

The device ended up crashing into a tree a few meters from the runway and near the beach where the minor was.

“Unfortunately we have to report the loss of life of a child of approximately two years who was not on the aircraft,” said Colonel Adriana Paz, commander of the Metropolitan Police, in a message to the media.

The five occupants of the flight headed for Bogotá “were slightly injured” and received medical attention in Santa Marta, according to the official report.

As a result of the accident, the operation of the airport was interrupted for a few hours. Activity has been restored.
