The SF50 Cirrus aircraft, which was operated by the private company Panamerican Training Center, had an accident before noon “during the takeoff run,” the Colombian Civil Aeronautics investigation unit said in a tweet.
The device ended up crashing into a tree a few meters from the runway and near the beach where the minor was.
“Unfortunately we have to report the loss of life of a child of approximately two years who was not on the aircraft,” said Colonel Adriana Paz, commander of the Metropolitan Police, in a message to the media.
The five occupants of the flight headed for Bogotá “were slightly injured” and received medical attention in Santa Marta, according to the official report.
As a result of the accident, the operation of the airport was interrupted for a few hours. Activity has been restored.
