“He killed another pregnant woman”: More air raids on Kyiv

According to the authorities, air defenses were deployed around the city of over a million inhabitants to intercept incoming drones from the Russian armed forces. A downing of such a drone was reported from the town of Brovary on the eastern outskirts of the city. Four people were killed in drone attacks on Kyiv early Monday morning.

In the evening there was an air raid over the southern regions of Mykolaiv and Odessa. Explosions were heard in Odessa. According to the authorities, an object of the energy supply was hit in the central Ukrainian region of Dnepropetrovsk on the day. “A fire broke out, the damage is extensive,” wrote Governor Mykola Lukaschuk on Telegram.

Against this background, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj called on the international community for more and better anti-aircraft weapons. “All day rubble has been cleared where the Russian terrorists hit, despite everything,” Zelenskyy said in his evening video address on Monday. Four people were killed in Kyiv alone, including a young couple with a pregnant woman. “Vladimir Putin can attribute another achievement to himself, he killed another pregnant woman,” Zelensky said.

“When we talk about air defense, we’re talking about real human lives,” he said. “It’s not just in Ukraine’s interest. The fewer Russia’s terrorist capabilities, the sooner this war will end.” The Russian armed forces attacked on Monday primarily with Iranian-made combat drones. Ukraine has intercepted 37 such drones and several cruise missiles since Sunday evening, Zelenskyy said.

On Tuesday morning, the Ukrainian army announced that eight drones had been intercepted on Monday evening. Six of them were shot down by fighter jets or anti-aircraft units. At 3:00 p.m., air defenses also intercepted two Kalibr missiles that had been intercepted by Russian warships in the Black Sea, the Ukrinform news agency reported.
