LASK faltered, but FAC fell

Not only Ried, but also LASK had to tremble for a long time in the ÖFB Cup on Tuesday and finally celebrated the quarter-finals. In the 2-1 win at FAC, Thomas Goiginger scored the win in the 89th minute – after a second half in which the second division team had the better chance of promotion.

With the same starting eleven as in the 3-1 win in Klagenfurt on Saturday, the pattern from the games of the past few weeks was repeated. The initial phase was strong again, the FAC hardly got out of their own half. Peter Michorl fired the first warning shot (7′), Sascha Horvath’s shot was parried by goalkeeper Simon Spari (12′). LASK waited for their own fans to make it 1-0: They had only filled the fan sector after 19:08 minutes in protest against the pink jerseys, based on the year in which the club was founded. Rene Renner scored the deserved goal. The strong Thomas Goiginger ran across in front of the penalty area, when all defenders were concentrating on him, he served Renner, who shot into the far post – 1:0 (23rd).

Again, the opening goal didn’t inspire, suddenly the outsider was allowed to play a little more. However, the equalizer came out of nowhere. Ex-LASK striker Marcel Monsberger scored a header after a corner kick (40th).

After the break, the game went back and forth, with FAC having better chances. Marcus Maier’s volley hit the post (59′), goalkeeper Alexander Schlager saved Alexander Mankowski’s shot into the near corner (73′) and turned Paolino Bertaccini’s free kick over the goal with a brilliant save (85′).

LASK faltered, but FAC fell: Goiginger extended a corner kick from Peter Michorl into the far corner and saved the athletes the next extra time after the 4-1 win in the second round in Imst.
