The 25-year-old from the Liezen district was driving his car at around 10:45 p.m. on the panoramic road from the Hutterer Boden valley towards Hinterstoder. A 32-year-old from Liezen was sitting in the passenger seat. In a sharp right-hand bend, the so-called Drei-Zinnen-Kehre, the driver continued straight ahead for reasons that are still unknown. The car fell down the steep embankment and came to rest in the trees about 70-80 meters below the road. The two occupants were injured – the driver seriously, the passenger slightly.
Inaccurate information
The fire department was informed of the accident around 11 p.m. However, the information about the accident site was inaccurate. The operations manager of the Hinterstoder fire brigade, Helmut Kniewasser, on ORF radio: “We drove up once with the command bus, but did not find the scene of the accident. Our tanker driver then saw that at the Drei Zinnen turn of the toll road up to the Höss there was a very easy lane. We then discovered the car down there.”
Because of the terrain, the rescue by mountain rescue, fire brigade and Red Cross was extremely difficult, and it was only around 1 a.m. that the two injured people could be taken to the hospital. Fire Department Operations Manager Kniewasser for the rescue: “The emergency services had to use a scoop stretcher and use a rope bridge to get out of the forest. The men were first treated by the emergency doctor and taken to hospitals.”
blood secured
An alcohol test could not be carried out due to the driver’s health. The blood was seized, police said. The two men said they had been drinking before driving.
The vehicle recovery could not be carried out until Wednesday morning.
