Parking fees against the chaos at the Langbathseen

Parking fees against the chaos at the Langbathseen

114 illegally parked cars, just as many police reports, one traffic gridlock and in the end even the roadblock ordered by the authorities: excursion guests from all over Upper Austria and Germany triggered traffic chaos at the Langbathseen in Ebensee last sunny weekend – to the annoyance of the residents in particular.

Ebensee’s Mayor Sabine Promberger (SPÖ) now wants to tame the avalanche – with a traffic control system and with parking fees. In the future, day trippers should be informed when they arrive on the Salzkammergut federal road B145 whether and where parking spaces are still available. “You can then decide at short notice to drive to where there is still space,” says Promberger.

The municipality has already had a corresponding app developed.
After the situation escalated over the weekend, state representatives were in Ebensee on Tuesday. Because the bathing area and the parking lots are owned by the state. Economic Councilor Markus Achleitner (ÖVP) set up a working group to develop solutions for the Langbathseen. “Of course, the proposals from the municipality of Ebensee are also welcome here, provided they are linked to a coherent financing concept,” says Achleitner’s office.

“Six euros a day is reasonable”

In fact, there are already concrete considerations in Ebensee. “I think a parking fee of six euros per day would be reasonable,” says the mayor.
However, the approval of the state as the landowner is required for the introduction of parking fees. In the case of Offensee, the federal forests (ÖBf) and the Habsburg family would also have to join in as landowners. Discussions in all directions are already underway. “I hope that we will be able to collect parking fees next year,” says Mayor Promberger.
