Corona forecast: a decline in hospital patients is expected

On Wednesday, 2,468 infected people across Austria needed treatment in the hospital, 58 fewer than on Tuesday.

Within a week there was a decrease of 125 hospital patients. Four more seriously ill people had to be treated in the intensive care units on Wednesday than the day before, and a total of 124 infected people were hospitalized. That was six less than a week ago. “For the next two weeks, a downward trend in the area of normal and intensive care is expected,” write the experts of the Covid forecast consortium.

The experts assume that in two weeks (November 2nd) 1,792 to 2,727 corona infected people will have to be treated in normal wards and 71 to 163 in intensive care units (ICU). On Wednesday, 124 and 2,344 had to be looked after on normal wards in the ICU area. Exactly one week ago, it had peaked in normal wards with 2,463 patients. As an average, 2,210 occupied normal beds are given in two weeks.

On Tuesday, 13,048 new corona infections were registered across Austria. This is above the average for the past seven days (11,027). The seven-day incidence was 855 cases per 100,000 population. There are now 115,350 laboratory-confirmed active cases in Austria, 1,374 more than the day before.

The authorities reported ten new Covid deaths. 49 deaths were registered in the past week. Overall, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 20,953 lives in Austria since it broke out. 232.1 people per 100,000 inhabitants died as a result of an infection.

Since the beginning of the pandemic there have already been 5,369,885 confirmed cases in Austria. The reported positive tests are currently declining in all federal states and age groups. Together with the trend reversal observed in the hospital coating and the declining virus load in the wastewater in most federal states, this suggests a temporary peak in the infection process, according to the experts. This is due, among other things, to the mild autumn weather, which dampened seasonal drivers. In addition, due to the high number of cases in recent weeks and months combined with a particularly high number of unreported cases (compared to spring 2022), the immunization of the population has increased significantly again, according to the experts.

19,294 corona vaccinations were carried out across Austria on Tuesday, of which 17,672 were booster vaccinations (4th, 5th and every further vaccination dose). A total of 976,703 people have received a booster vaccination so far.
