“European Cup, European Cup”, shouted the fan block of the blue and whites on Wednesday evening exactly during those 100 seconds after the break when the Linzer with the two and three goals conceded their mini-chance to participate in the European competition – for which you would have to be a cup winner – yourself had buried.
Actually, this 0:3 deficit after 47 minutes was an impossibility considering the game shares. Until then, there was no real difference between the Bundesliga club and the second division club. And yet the result was not undeserved, because the gifts from Linz could not have been greater when it came to conceding goals.
So the 0:1 fell practically out of nowhere. After a free kick by Ervin Omic, central defender Raphael Schifferl scored to make it 0:1 (34 ‘), blue and white goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid didn’t look good at all. The header from close range bounced up right in front of him, but was definitely tenable. This goal might have been tolerable if it hadn’t hit twice after the break. Just 100 seconds after the restart, Tai Baribo celebrated the 0:2 (47th). Even worse was the goal to make it 0:3, which came just 30 seconds after the Linz kick-off from 0:2. The blue and white defense blundered by playing the ball into the run of Tai Baribo. Maurice Malone only had to extend his cross pass to the middle into the empty goal. That of course decided the game – and the resistance of the blue and whites was completely broken. At least Ronivaldo managed to make it 3-1 in the finish (84th).
Sturm won the Graz Derby
Sturm Graz had to tremble significantly more in the 1-0 win in the Graz derby in front of a full house against GAK. Albian Ajeti redeemed the favorites in a heated derby after 67 minutes with the gold goal.
