“We must do everything we can to stem inflation. As a community, we cannot sit back and relax,” said Julbach Mayor Johannes Plattner after the most recent community council meeting. “We have decided that a subsidy of 500 euros will be granted for the construction of new systems that generate CO2-free energy – such as solar and photovoltaic systems. We want to become less CO2-free,” he says. Around 40 systems are to be supported in this way in 2023.
“We also want to equip all outstanding municipal buildings with photovoltaic systems by 2023. The outdoor pool, the two fire stations, the building yard, the Stockschützenhalle and the football building are available.” The current development on the electricity market makes this measure indispensable: “We absolutely have to implement it. Our electricity costs will increase from 22,000 euros per year to 76,000 euros in 2023. I just hope we get the approvals and necessary feed-in contracts,” says Plattner.
However, it is not only the municipalities that are struggling with rising energy costs. “If politicians don’t intervene, it will be very difficult for us to keep our local suppliers in the long term. Because electricity price increases by a factor of six are a big problem.”
