Ice skating and curling will also be possible this winter in the Rieder ice rink at the exhibition center. Due to the high energy prices, there were considerations not to open the hall again last season. Due to the structural structure, the ice rink will have to be closed after this winter.
Now the political leaders are happy that the hall will be opened with a delay on December 1st this year. The season lasts until the end of the semester break on February 26, 2023. “The city’s political representatives worked together to find solutions to enable an opening. To sit down at a table, negotiate and find solutions, that’s how politics works,” says SPÖ Deputy Mayor Peter Stummer. The initiative for an opening came from the Social Democrats.
For Stummer it is clear that a new district ice rink is needed in Ried. “We will look for solutions together, but of course such a project is currently not so easy to implement due to the tense financial situation. But the need for an ice rink in Ried is completely out of the question,” says Stummer.
